I was less than a day old when I met Claudia (and Jimmie, of course), and I remember it well. They are a few days older than I am. My mother and their mother were in the same hospital room at Fitkin Hospital in Neptune. In those days, new mothers stayed in the hospital for a week.
As children, we lived about a mile apart in Howell Township and began kindergarten together at the Ardena School. We played at each other's house. Claudia and Jimmie both climbed the apple trees in their back yards.
I chatted with Claudia when she was in the hospital, right before she went into surgery. Claudia said she had been very active and used to walk to work but her condition had her a point where she could no longer do and be what she wanted. Claudia did her homework. She went to the best hospital and doctor, but sometimes God has other plans.
