I kept in touch with Gene telephonically and we always tried to call one another on our shared birthday of December 1. I treasure the last “shared birthday” conversation we had just days before he passed. After I moved to the Bay Area about fifteen years ago, we were finally able to see each other in person again. It also gave my sons the opportunity to meet Gene, something I am grateful for.
Gene was a good friend, with an upbeat personality, generous to a fault and a keen intellect. Gene was a voracious comic book reader but I note that all that time “squandered” on reading comic books didn’t keep him out of the Lakewood High Honor Society or Yale or law school. In addition to enjoying his post-retirement home and spa-like backyard with husband Tim with whom he spent the past 40+ years, of late, Gene spent a considerable amount of time cataloguing his collection of tens of thousands of comic books.
It was my privilege to call him my friend and he will be sorely missed

I remember Eugene so well. We rode on the school bus together during high school. He would totally embarrass me when I got on the bus, every time, by singing to me "My Cherie Amour". The redder my face got, the more he sang. He was a great guy and a lot of fun. He is surely missed 🤗🫶
